The Big Idea

Folly by definition is a foolish action or idea, the word absurdity and phrase "lack of sense" seem to continually arise. But what would life be like without these follies? Why not embrace these ideas and get a little nutty! This is my journal for those adventures, and along the way I hope to meet new people, take the path less traveled, have some fun, and spread the story of this sustainable journey we call life! Here you’ll find short anecdotes about my life, links to enlightenment, and opinions on how to have fun! I would love to hear about your folly, so feel free to e-mail me, I might just post them, and thanks for visiting!

Day 9 June 2nd

Day 9 June 2nd

Stats: 50.22 Miles, 4:55 Hours, 10.1 MPH Average, 37.7 MPH Top Speed, 50’s first sunny morning we have seen and then turned into driving rain by the afternoon.

This morning we woke up next to the ocean and sunshine!! We hoped the sun would be a good omen and headed out. The day was going to be tough, with the 3 biggest hills so far to ride over.

We set off and tackled the first hill, it was almost impossible with all the weight we were carrying but we managed and neither of us had to walk any of it. By the second hill we were beat, but still we made it!

We coasted to a stop in Lincoln City to eat at Safeway and were pretty tired. After our short break we headed back out to find the rain had come! Disappointed, we geared up and set off with 30 miles left to ride. Of course Molly wanted to get a hotel and I wanted to keep riding. After 15 miles, some angry words, a quick pep talk, and a few more miles, we pulled into the Channel House, a tiny 12 room Bed and Breakfast right on the ocean in Depoe Bay, which by the way is home to the worlds smallest harbor, check out the link to the hotel site by clicking on the title to this post or going to http://www.channelhouse.com/. We were tired and soaked and the stop was just what we needed.

We walked into our room and found a cozy fireplace, a queen sized bed, and a private patio overlooking the Pacific Ocean with our own hot tub and bottle of wine waiting for us. We quickly unpacked and jumped in.

The warm water melted our frozen soaked bodies, and put smiles back on our faces. This place is really what the two of us needed to make it the rest of the way. Now we’re relaxing, eating local sea food, and about to hop back into the tub. Were thankful were here because the rain is still coming hard and were nice and dry instead of wet and tired camping in the mud! Oh ya there’s free internet too, so Molly is getting her shopping on!
