The Big Idea

Folly by definition is a foolish action or idea, the word absurdity and phrase "lack of sense" seem to continually arise. But what would life be like without these follies? Why not embrace these ideas and get a little nutty! This is my journal for those adventures, and along the way I hope to meet new people, take the path less traveled, have some fun, and spread the story of this sustainable journey we call life! Here you’ll find short anecdotes about my life, links to enlightenment, and opinions on how to have fun! I would love to hear about your folly, so feel free to e-mail me, I might just post them, and thanks for visiting!

This was a big weekend!!

So over the weekend I purchased my panniers, I went with the Ortlieb classic rollers, front and rear in black of course and the Ortlieb classic handlebar bag in white! I ordered them from Wayne over at TheTouringStore.com, and without even knowing it he happened to be located in Fort Collins, so I was able to pick them up that day. They look like great bags, I haven't had time to mount them yet but I am sure I will be happy with them. I set Molly, the pretty one going on this journey with me, up with some Novara Transfer Panniers that I was lucky to pick up off CraigsList. Lastly, we both bought our plane tickets to Seattle, for May 25th, which were a steal at only 69 buck taxes and all!!! So were gearing up and getting excited to head out.

Be sure to check out the link to TheTouringStore.com, just click on the title of this posting, and to have a look at more of my pictures from Friday’s 50 mile uphill battle with the wind just click on the slide show in the upper right hand corner!!

Spring seems to be sticking around!

So as spring has arrived in Colorado I've finally gotten the chance to get my newly built Surly Long Haul Trucker out on the road and rolling!! For the gear heads out there, I bought a stock built Surly Long Haul Trucker from JensonUSA.com for around 900 and upgraded to a nice brooks flyer, Planet Bike fenders, Jannd frame pack, waterproof lights, cyclometer, and a few other small things. I am still working on the bike and once I have a tad more money, still keeping my fingers crossed about sponsorship, I can finish getting the gear I need for my trip!! I will be posting a few pictures soon as well as an actual list of all the gear I bought for the trip and budget. Once I pack up to leave I will have a nice detailed list for what I am actually bringing for 5 weeks on a bike, for any of you that are interested.

Come back soon and see some pictures!

Take your wonderbike pledge!

So here are a few things you can all do to help out our planet. The wonderbike pledge!! Just pledge to ride your bike somewhere every week, whether that be to work, the market, or just down to the local watering hole. These little steps help! I pledged 20 miles a week, and now that its been 2 or 3 weeks I think I am close to 50 or 60. I cannot wait for the trip where it will be around 100 miles a day! No car for over a month!!! Here is the link, the title should link to the pledge page as well.

Finally we have lift off!!

So this is the first post of the blog, I am happy to say that I finally got this site up and running and I hope that anyone that chances upon it enjoys it. My plan here for my first trip is to peddle from Vancouver slash Seattle to Imperial Beach, California. For the most part from the Canadian border to the Mexican one! I will keep this first posting short, but I plan on updating this as my plans and gear come to life, as well as while I am on the road this summer! Thanks for stopping in, and be sure to check back soon!
