The Big Idea

Folly by definition is a foolish action or idea, the word absurdity and phrase "lack of sense" seem to continually arise. But what would life be like without these follies? Why not embrace these ideas and get a little nutty! This is my journal for those adventures, and along the way I hope to meet new people, take the path less traveled, have some fun, and spread the story of this sustainable journey we call life! Here you’ll find short anecdotes about my life, links to enlightenment, and opinions on how to have fun! I would love to hear about your folly, so feel free to e-mail me, I might just post them, and thanks for visiting!

Tweet tweet, companies jump on Twitter

Here is an interesting article about some local businesses joining the Twitter revolution. New Belgium's Adrian Glasenapp comments about how tweeting can be a great way to open lines of communication with customers.

Here is a picture from the Coloradoan of Adrian sending out tweets on his iPhone. I find this interesting because my research over at CSU is how companies are using new media to communicate with their customers, and Twitter seems to be one of those next mediums that is starting to catch on in the business world.

Spring Break 2009!!

No I did not flock down to Cancun and show off my goods like many spring breakers this year, but I did manage to make it to the beach. I went to San Diego to see my brother, well best friend, but as close to a brother as anyone, and just relaxed. We did end up at Wave House in Pacific Beach however, and for anyone who is visiting San Diego it's recommended to stop in and check it out.

There is a full overhead wave machine at the bar, so if 2 dollar domestics don't do it for you, you can get in line and catch a wave.

The rest of break was spent in the Fort Collins sunshine, as well as with a quick trip up to Missoula with Molly for a job interview. All in all, break was great, I hope you all are enjoying the start to spring, and now that I am back in town there should be more posts coming.

Thanks again for staying interested and click on the title to this post to read more about the exciting things over at the Wave House.

For those of you that liked my more serious postings, you may have been at the wrong blog! Just kidding but new bike contraptions will always be posted here, with adornment and jealousy, remember the couch bike from last spring!! Imagine the two together, it would be like your college living room reincarnated.

British pubs see hard times!

Over 20,000 jobs have been lost and over 2,000 pubs closed due to Britain's 2008 beer tax increase. An estimated 75,000 more jobs are hanging precariously, not knowing what the future may bring. All this after an 18% tax increase on the production of that frothy beverage we love called beer.

I am writing this because of the article I posted a week or two ago about Oregon's and Idaho's plan to raise taxes on beer by almost 1900%. As I said in that post, with this sort of re-regulation and government intervention we will surely see jobs lost that could be avoided. With the call for more spending comes higher taxes, and some small businesses as well as consumers just cannot afford the hike.

Utah may join the rest of the beer drinking world!!!

Utah legislators voted this week to bring full strength beer into the bars throughout the state. As of now in the state predominantly run by the Church of the Latter Day Saints, only beer with a 3.2 alcohol by weight percentage is sold. Utah has a few other funky rules concerning booze as well, like all liquor stores are state owned, and beer must be sold non-refrigerated. Also, to get into a public bar, patrons must be members of the bar, or sponsored by a member. I have spent a little time in Utah, and the laws are bizarre. In a place where outdoor life is epic, beer would be the expected counterpart. Unlike Utah's neighbor to the east, the state does not cherish the tasty fermented beverage. For me, this always put a damper on a great day of biking or skiing, not being able to engage in apres like we may have wanted. This welcomed news may just make me pack up my camping gear and head to Utah this spring!!
