The Big Idea

Folly by definition is a foolish action or idea, the word absurdity and phrase "lack of sense" seem to continually arise. But what would life be like without these follies? Why not embrace these ideas and get a little nutty! This is my journal for those adventures, and along the way I hope to meet new people, take the path less traveled, have some fun, and spread the story of this sustainable journey we call life! Here you’ll find short anecdotes about my life, links to enlightenment, and opinions on how to have fun! I would love to hear about your folly, so feel free to e-mail me, I might just post them, and thanks for visiting!

Day 7 May 31st

Day 7 May 31st

75.65 Miles, 6:58 Hours 10.8 MPH Average, 35.7 MPH Top Speed, cloudy and 50’s

Today we crossed into Oregon!!

Bye bye Washington, and the cloudy cold days! It was actually still cloudy and cold on the south side of the Columbia River too, but we hope for some warm sunny days ahead. Anyway Molly decided to give me the silent treatment for a while so we rode in relative peace and quite for the first part of the day. By the time we reached the Astoria Bridge she was chatting away again as usual. Crossing the bridge was chaotic; little shoulders, 3 miles long, and a huge uphill on the south end tired us out quickly.

Once into Oregon we stopped for some pizza where a nutty owner tried to get signage into all of our pictures, and then kept heading south towards Cannon Beach.

Cannon Beach is where we want to live now. The town was amazing, and the beach was beautiful, we wished we could have stayed there longer, but the only camping was a rabbit overrun RV park that charged a crazy amount for just a tent.

It all worked out though, we kept riding south, through our first tunnel experience, to Oswald West State Park, and arrived by dark. This was the latest we rode and was the first time we had to pull out our lights, hey 75 miles takes a long time! Anyway we got to our camp spot and the grounds were full! Luckily we met Kara and Stephanie, a couple of friendly Canadian girls headed to Mexico that let us share their campsite (pictures of our new friends will come soon). We set camp and ate dinner around the fire that the girls made, and were even treated to a song performed by Kara and her guitar. All in all it was a great day, a bit long, and I though Molly would never talk to me again, but we made it and were feeling good!

  1. Hey you two,

In the picture with paul in front of the the ocean and large rocks, isn't that the same shot from the goonies? Just wondering.

It sounds like you are doing awesome! I liked the part about the silent treatment!

    All is well here.

    Have fun!
    Love Annie
